New Zealand Government Scholarships for Developing Countries, 2016-2017

New Zealand Government is offering scholarships for students starting full-time postgraduate degree programmes in 2016. Scholarships are available for national of African Commonwealth countries, Africa – non-Commonwealth countries, Asia, Latin America, Caribbean Commonnwealth countries and Caribbean non-Commonnwealth countries.
New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) give candidates from selected developing countries an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through study in specific subject areas which will assist in the development of their home country.
The New Zealand Aid Programme delivers New Zealand’s official support for developing countries. The purpose of New Zealand’s aid is to develop shared prosperity and stability in the Pacific and beyond, drawing on the best of New Zealand’s knowledge and skills.
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following conditions to be eligible for a New Zealand Scholarship:
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing your scholarship.
  • Be a citizen of the country from which you are applying for a scholarship.
  • Not have citizenship or permanent residence status of New Zealand, Australia, USA, Canada, European Union countries, United Kingdom, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia.
  • Important note: this condition does not apply to applicants from the Cook Islands, Tokelau or Niue, or applicants from Samoa with dual Samoa-NZ citizenship.
  • Have resided in your home country for at least two years immediately prior to commencing your scholarship.
  • Important note:this condition does not apply to applicants who are members of the diplomatic corps or their dependants, and may not apply to applicants for Short Term Scholarships.
  • Have at least 2 years of work experience (part time or fulltime, paid or voluntary).
  • Important note:this condition does not apply to applicants from the Pacific who are applying for a pre-service scholarship -Not be serving military personnel.
  • Be able to satisfy Immigration requirements for international student entry to New Zealand or the country in which you will undertake your scholarship (i.e. medical checks, police clearances/character checks, etc.)
  • Be academically and linguistically able to obtain an Offer of Place for the proposed programme of study from the tertiary institute where you will undertake your scholarship.
  • Not have been previously terminated from a New Zealand Government Scholarship.
  • Seek a qualification that will contribute to the sustainable development of your home country
  • Commit to return to your country for a minimum of 2 years at the end of your scholarship.
Scholarship Value/Cost:
The entitlements of the Scholarship include full tuition fees, a living allowance (paid fortnightly), an establishment allowance, medical and travel insurance, travel between your home country and New Zealand at the start and end of your scholarship, home leave or reunion travel for some eligible scholars, pastoral and academic support at your institution, and assistance with research and thesis costs for most postgraduate research students.
Selection Criteria:
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong academic ability, leadership qualities, and a commitment to the development of their home country. Preference is also given to candidates who are 39 years of age or younger at the time of commencing their scholarship.
Application Process:
  • Apply for an Offer of Place (admission) at your preferred one of the ten eligible New Zealand education institutions using their usual application process for international students.
  • Once you receive admission to a New Zealand institution, download the New Zealand Scholarships application form and complete all sections.
  • Submit 2 copies of your completed application form, with all attachments and supporting documents (including an Offer of Place) by the deadline to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade via post But applicants from China and Timor-Leste should submit their application to their respective New Zealand Embassy.

International Student Scholarships 2015 at Asia Pacific University in Malaysia

Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) is awarding international student scholarships for students joining APU programmes in 2015 onwards. Scholarship holders must maintain a CGPA score of 3.00 to carry forward and maintain their scholarship throughout their studies. The application criteria includes academic success, financial need, community involvement, sports excellence, references from instructors or employers. These partial scholarships are limited to course fees only.
Eligibility:
  • Scholarship holders must maintain a CGPA score of 3.00 to carry forward and maintain their scholarship throughout their studies.
  • Students who have not obtained their final results may use their Forecast results to apply. However, their forecast results must be certified by the School.
  • Should the student fail to achieve the required actual results after having been awarded a scholarship based on Forecast results, the award will be rescinded.
Scholarship:
These partial scholarships are limited to course fees only. All other fees & expenses including project fees, registration fees, living and travel expenses, except for the course fee as determined by the scholarship award shall be borne by the scholarship holder.

UN Young Professionals Programme is Open for Applications

The Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is a recruitment initiative for talented, highly qualified professionals to start a career as an international civil servant with the United Nations Secretariat. It consists of an entrance examination and professional development programmes once successful candidates start their career with the UN.
The YPP examination is held once a year and is open to nationals of countries participating in the annual recruitment exercise. The list of participating countries is published annually and varies from year to year.
Basic Application Criteria:
  • You must have the nationality of a participating country.
  • You must hold at least a first-level university degree relevant for the exam area you are applying for.
  • You must be 32 or younger by the end of the examination.
  • You must be fluent in either English or French.
This examination is also held for staff members of the United Nations Secretariat who work within the General Service and other related categories and aspire to a career within the Professional and higher categories. Exam Areas:
Depending on the staffing needs of the United Nations, applicants are invited to apply for different exam areas. Descriptions of responsibilities, expected competencies and education requirements differ depending on the area.

International Workshop for Young Journalists 2015

Send applications now for an International Workshop for Young journalists. This is a five-day workshop that will provide media training to aspiring young journalists from the Visegrad Four countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Hungary), utilizing Embassy Bratislava’s network of senior alumni active in the field, as well as US experts.
The purpose of the program is to provide students with an interest in journalism an opportunity to improve their writing and reporting skills through a series of workshops, lectures, and debates with experienced journalists. The program will include a writing lab and video reporting lab, and will be in English. Knowledge acquired during the conference will be utilized to produce a final written product presented on the last day of the conference.
Costs:
Successful applicants will have their travel and accommodation costs covered, as well as breakfasts and working lunches will be covered for the selected participants throughout the whole conference.

  • Open to students between 18-24 years.

United Nations & Nippon Foundation Call for Fellowship Programme 2016

The United Nations together with the Nippon Foundation of Japan is inviting applications from the government officials and other mid level professionals from developing states for its Fellowship programme 2016 to provide opportunity for advanced education and research in the field of ocean affairs and the law of sea and related disciplines.
Programme Structure:
The duration of the fellowship programme is 9 month, composed of two consecutive phases-
  • Phase 1 will comprise 3 months Research and Training undertaken at DOALOS at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
  • Phase 2 will be of 6 months duration with Advanced Academic Research and Study undertaken at one of the prestigious participating Host Institutions.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Applicants must be nominated by their government, employer, or competent organization.
  • Applicants must be between the age of 25-40 Years.
  • Applicant must possess a university degree in the related discipline and must have the ability to undertake independent research and studies in an academic context.
  • Applicant must be a mid-level professional who can demonstrate the work directly on ocean issues.
  • Applicants must be in a position to accept placement with host institution for a period not less than nine months
  • Applicant must be in a position to obtain all relevant visas, including transit visas.
